Obesity being one of the greatest public health issues worldwide has its own deleterious effects on the cardiovascular system. As a species, we are getting fatter. There are 400 million adults worldwide who are obese and one billion who are overweight. Youngsters are more vulnerable in gaining weight. Worldwide, 17.6 million children under five are estimated to be overweight. Latest discoveries are prompting to the advancement of concepts such as metabolically healthy obesity, the obesity paradox, and protective subcutaneous fat depots have raised an exuberant level headed discussion on the unique impacts of obesity on health outcomes. Cardiovascular disease is the most widely recognized reason for mortality in rich countries and today it has become an epidemic accounting for half of the eradication of the population worldwide. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and morbidity has been shown to be elevated in individuals who are overweight, particularly with central deposition of adipose tissues. If current trend continues, obesity may become as the leading cause of preventable diseases.
