Biography

Dr Simon Noble is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Palliative Medicine at Cardiff University and Honorary Consultant at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. He has research experience in designing and conducting clinical trials, qualitative research and “wet lab” work. His MD investigated the impact of MTSS-1 gene on the metastatic behaviours of non small cell lung cancer and he has continued his interest in lung cancer research as co investigator on the FRAGMATIC trial: a RCT looking at the impact of Dalteparin on survival in lung cancer. Research interests include the management of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in cancer, the anticancer effects of heparins, quality of life effects of VTE and their therapies, clinical decision making in VTE management and the patient journey. He has served on the APM Science Committee and sits on the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Cancer Subcommittee. He is co director of the Thrombosis in Advanced Disease (TRAD) Alliance with Miriam Johnson and Anthony Maraveyas which aims to develop thrombosis studies within the palliative care population. Current funded projects include ¨ ALICAT: A feasibility study to inform the design of a randomised controlled trial to identify the most clinically and cost effect length of Anticoagulation with Low molecular weight heparin In the treatment of Cancer Associated Thrombosis. ¨ Doctors Decide: a clinical decision making study in thrombosis and advanced cancer. ¨ Qualitative study into the psychological impact of VTE in survivors of massive pulmonary embolism. ¨ Thrombosis Registry Of Palliative and Hospice Units (TROPHY)
