Biography

Dr. K-Raman Purushothaman MD, research medical pathologist with more than 15 years of expertise in cardiovascular pathology by evaluating plaque compositional changes in atherosclerosis. His focus of interest is to identify etiopathogenesis of vulnerable plaque features that includes neovasculaization, intra plaque hemorrhage, apoptosis, oxidative stress, inflammation, medial artery calcification and fibrosis using advanced histopathological techniques. He is involved in detailed study of plaque compositional changes leading to plaque progression and regression associated with risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and haptoglobin genotypes. He has extensive in depth expertise in evaluation of human coronary, aortic, carotid and peripheral arterial plaque characterization. He is currently studying human heart valve biology to elucidate lesion severity in disease progression in myxomatous mitral valve degeneration and bicuspid aortic valve disease. His focus of interest is to identify etiopathotogenesis of chordae tendinae rupture in Fibro elastic deficiency versus Barlow’s disease in the mitral valve leaflets.
