Biography

Dr. Jianwen Que was born in Yongding, a small town at the southeast part of China. He started the long journey towards his doctorate by walking 1.5miles every weekday at the age of five. He obtained a Bachelor of Medicine from Peking University Health Science Center in 1999, and had a short stint in a psychiatric hospital in Beijing as a resident. He then obtained his PhD from the University of Singapore in 2005, after which he spent five years with Dr. Brigid Hogan at Duke University to study transcriptional regulation of lung morphogenesis as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2010 he joined the Biomedical Genetics faculty at the University of Rochester where he built mouse models of esophageal cancer and pulmonary vasculature dysplasia. Outside of professional interests, he plays volleyball, jogs and enjoys living in Rochester with his family and cat Rocky.

Signaling molecules and transcription factors regulating epithelial stem cells in the gut and respiratory system. Genetic modeling of esophageal cancer.
