Biography

Dr.Guruprasad Kuntamallappanavar has pursued his Bachelor of Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc) degree from Veterinary College, Karnataka Veterinary Animal Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar, India in 2007. Then, he obtained his Masters of Veterinary Sciences (M.V.Sc.) degree from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Uttar Pradesh (IVRI), UP, India in 2009. Later, he received his Ph.D in Biomedical Science with concentration on cardiovascular pharmacology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), Memphis, TN. Currently, he is working as research associate at UTHSC. His laboratory is interested in elucidating the molecular mechanism underlying action of ligands such as alcohol/steroids/cholesterol on ion channels from excitable cells including vascular smooth muscle cells and neurons. These questions are being addressed using patch-clamp electrophysiology, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, computational modelling, in vitro electroporation, in vitro myogenic tone in isolated resistance size vessels, cranial window. In addition, he is a member of the American Heart Association, Biophysical Society, Research Society on Alcoholism and American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is also a recipient of the most prestigious predoctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association
