Biography

Fabio Caputo achieved the specialization in Gerontology at University of Bologna in 2000, he got the diploma in Alcoholism and Alcohol-Related Problems at University of Florence in 2001. He reached the Ph.D. in Physiology and Physiopathology at the University of Bologna in 2004 and two years later, the post-doc in Medical and Pharmaceutical Science at the same University. From 1994 to January 2007 he worked at the “G. Fontana” Centre for the Study and Multidisciplinary Treatment of Alcohol Addiction, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Bologna, and at the Unit for Addiction Treatment, Department of Mental Health in Bologna. In 1997 succeeded the award for the study “Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid in the treatment of alcoholism: dosage fractioning utility in non-responder alcoholic patients”, in 1998 he won the award for the project “Investigation of alcohol-related mortality in Italy”, in 1999 he got the award for the study “Investigation of alcohol habits in a population of poly-addicted patients”, and in 2000 he resulted worthy for the fellowship regarding the project “Investigation into the use of alcohol at thermal spa”. He was designed teacher in Alcoholism and Alcohol-Related Problems at University of Florence in 2002, at the University of Bologna from 2006 to 2009, and at the University of Pisa in 2013. In 2004 he became one of the member of the Medical Commission of License Driving in the city of Bologna, in 2006 member of the European and International Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism (ESBRA and ISBRA), in 2010 member of the International Advisory Board - SOTAD (Sodium Oxybate in the Therapy of Alcohol Dependence), and in 2012 member of the Italian Society of Alcohol Addiction. His fields of research include the pharmacological treatment of alcohol addiction. He published 70 International Articles (Impact Factor = 494,265), and 8 of these were clinical trials with pharmacological compounds (GABA-ergic medications: sodium oxybate and baclofen); he was also co-workers in the draft of 12 books and 4 mono-graphics publications and numerous abstracts presented during National and International Meetings.

His fields of research include the pharmacological treatment of alcohol addiction.
