Biography

After a long period of clinical experience (more than 25 years) in the treatment of hematological diseases (mostly Leukemia , Thalassemia and bone marrow insufficiency) using conventional therapy and Bone marrow Transplantation at University of Milan (Italy) , Doctor Uderzo was finally involved in some African District hospitals and,recently, in a “self sustained” project carried out by HELP3, S. Gemma Associations and “Cure2Children” Foundatio n in favor of Low income Countries children. Major commitment was devoted both to education and training of local health personnel in order to improve knowledge and skill in the treatment of severe hematological diseases and their complications. He is an active member of different International Scientific Societies and coordinator of many national and international cooperative studies; in particular member of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) since 1990 and the American Society of Hematology (ASH) since 1993; member of the International-BFM study Group since 1996; member of the GITMO (Italian bone marrow transplantation Group) since 1990; member of MASCC since 2003.

• Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for childhood leukemia and lymphomas • Treatment of relapse in childhood leukemia • Supportive care (total parenteral nutrition, infectious diseases, cancer pain management) and acute effects management of transplanted children (mucositis, VOD, microangiopathy, GVHD) • Central Venous Line management , surveillance and guidelines • BMT pediatric late effects (cardiopulmonary toxicity, second tumors, post BMT endocrinological problems, post-BMT quality of life) • Support therapy for children with cancer and terminal phase • Quality management in BMT activities • Bone marrow Transplantation in “Low income Countries” • “Sickle cell disease” consultant in “Low income countries”
