Fabio Angeli holds an M.D. degree and works as a Cardiologist and Biomedical Researcher in the Teaching Hospital "S.M. della Misericordia" of Perugia, Italy. He is an investigator and co-responsible for planning and management of mono-center and multi-center clinical studies on cardiovascular drugs (in connection with hospitals and universities), in addition to medical writing. Biography :

I started my early career in Italy (1979) under the mentorship of Prof. Fulvio Camerini, past Chair of the European Society of Cardiology Nucleus on Myocardial and Pericardial Disease at the University Hospital of Trieste. In 1989, at the University of Utah with Dr. Michael Bristow, I started a molecular genetics approach to myocardial disease. From 1991 to 1998, I worked at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (United Nations), where I expanded my research on molecular genetics of cardiomyopathy. In 1998, I joined the University of Colorado, to lead a new program of clinical and molecular genetics. The program is now well established, it includes both clinical care and basic science, and it has trained a number of graduate and post-graduate students.My cardiovascular research has focused on the discovery of Mendelian genes causing dilated cardiomyopathy and other more rare forms of heart muscle disease. My laboratory has discovered several genes and gene mutations and studied the association with the phenotype to provide tools in the clinical setting for diagnosis and therapy. I found that several pathways may be involved, ranging from mechanics of cytoskeleton, to force production, energy production, storage, ion homeostasis and signalling. More recently, I have expanded my research interests toward rare genetic forms of cardiomyopathies, advanced genome and nano science to investigate heart disease with novel tools. I am member of the AHA Pacific Mountain Research Committee since 2007, I served in several review boards of the NIH and AHA and I have recently participated in the expert panel for the development of the AHA guidelines for genetic testing in cardiomyopathies.

Dr.Guruprasad Kuntamallappanavar has pursued his Bachelor of Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc) degree from Veterinary College, Karnataka Veterinary Animal Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar, India in 2007. Then, he obtained his Masters of Veterinary Sciences (M.V.Sc.) degree from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Uttar Pradesh (IVRI), UP, India in 2009. Later, he received his Ph.D in Biomedical Science with concentration on cardiovascular pharmacology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), Memphis, TN. Currently, he is working as research associate at UTHSC. His laboratory is interested in elucidating the molecular mechanism underlying action of ligands such as alcohol/steroids/cholesterol on ion channels from excitable cells including vascular smooth muscle cells and neurons. These questions are being addressed using patch-clamp electrophysiology, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, computational modelling, in vitro electroporation, in vitro myogenic tone in isolated resistance size vessels, cranial window. In addition, he is a member of the American Heart Association, Biophysical Society, Research Society on Alcoholism and American Association for the Advancement of Science. Biography :

The research of Michael S. Wolin, Ph.D. has focused on elucidating fundamental concepts of vascular oxidant signaling mechanisms. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Yale University in 1981 and his thesis work examined how adenylate cyclase synthesized cAMP. His subsequent postdoctoral work with Louis J. Ignarro in the Department of Pharmacology of Tulane University investigated how the soluble form of guanylate cyclase was regulated by nitric oxide, porphyrins and free radicals. Dr. Wolin joined the Department of Physiology of New York Medical College as an Assistant Professor in 1983 and subsequently rose to the rank of Professor in 1995. He was an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association (AHA) and a recipient of a Merit Award from the NHLBI, and he gave the AHA Dickenson Richards Lecture in 2000. Dr. Wolin was a member of the Research Committee and Scientific Sessions Program Committee of the AHA, a past chair of the AHA Cardiopulmonary, Preoperative and Critical Care Council, a member of the NIH VCMB study section, an Associate Editor for the Journal Microcirculation, and is currently an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Physiology-Heart & Circulatory Physiology. He gave the Berne Distinguished Lecture at the Experimental Biology Meeting in 2008.

His research has focused on how reactive oxygen species and their interactions with nitric oxide control vascular signaling mechanisms associated with endothelial function, mitochondrial respiration and guanylate cyclase. Through collaborations at NYMC he has been able to investigate how vascular oxidant and/or NO signaling mechanisms control microcirculatory function and is altered by complications of pregnancy, exercise, heart failure, systemic and pulmonary hypertension, diabetes and aging. More recent interests include understanding the regulatory role of cytosolic NAD(P)H redox and how these systems control of Nox oxidases and differences in oxygen sensing mechanisms between the coronary and pulmonary vasculature.

Dr S.Wamique Yusuf is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He obtained his medical degree from Dow Medical College, Karachi. Dr. Al-Mallah held many leadership positions in professional cardiology and cardiac imaging societies including the board of directors of the American Society of Nuclear cardiology and the cardiovascular council of the society of nuclear medicine. He is an invited editor at multiple journals, a member of the editorial board of Journal of the American College of Cardiology, JACC imaging and European Heart Journal Cardiovascular Imaging. He serves frequently as a reviewer for multiple journals including JAMA, Circulation, JACC and others. He lectured extensively about different cardiac imaging modalities, both locally and internationally at the annual meetings of the European Society of Cardiology, American College of cardiology, American Heart Association, Society of Cardiac CT, Society of Nuclear Medicine and American Society of Nuclear Cardiology. Biography :

Dr. Xiaoping Ren received his M.D in Harbin Medical University in 1984. He performed his Clinical and Research Hand Fellowship training in University of Louisville in Kentucky (1996-2000). During the period, Dr. Ren created a feasibility large animal CTA model for limb transplantation to allow modulation of the immune reaction and to investigate immunosuppressant. The Nation’s First Hand Transplantation in US was successfully conducted as a direct result of the preclinical swine composite tissue allotransplantation model (CTA). He joined the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine as faculty member in 2001, then appointed Assistant professor and Associate Professor. As well as CTA, another focus of his research program is to understand molecular and neuronal basis of non-ischemic nociceptor-induced cardioprotection. In UC. These studies were published in the Journal of Surgical Research and in Circulation. Dr. Ren has had over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals. I trained in Yale University School of Medicine as a HHMI postdoctoral fellow and in the Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology/UCSF as a postdoctoral associate, both in the field of Immunobiology. After serving as a faculty member in the Graduate Program in Immunology in Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, I joined the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Sciences, National Institute on Aging, NIH to head the receptor unit where I study vascular inflammation and the impact on aging.

My research interests focus on how innate immune signaling triggers vascular inflammation and impacts physiopathological changes and aging. We are also interested in translating basic research to potential clinical applications.

Vasiliki E. Kalodimou is Director of the Flow Cytometry-Research and Regenerative Medicine Department at IASO Maternity-Pediatric and Research Hospital in Athens, Greece. Before her current appointment, Kalodimou served as a haematology associate at General University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, and as an instructor at both the General University Hospital of Heraklion and the Ipokratios Medical- Technical Institute of Athens. Kalodimou received her bachelor’s degree in Human Physiology and her master’s degree in Human Molecular Genetics from the Imperial College at the University of Medicine in London, UK. She completed her PhD at the University of Medicine in Athens, Greece, with an emphasis on stem cells and factors affecting their viability and absolute numbers.

Since 2006, Dr. Kalodimou has studied and working with stem cells from placenta, umbilical cord and adipose tissue, in every day practice and their applications in regenerative medicine and Flow Cytometry. Also is working in the area of human genetics & population genetics. In collaboration with the Hellenic Flow Cytometry Society, Kalodimou has developed quality control schemes for stem cell marker enumeration. The goal of this work is to find helpful new applications for flow cytometry, evaluate the risk factors for stem cell infusion, and improve the clarity and accessibility of measurements by flow cytometry. Her work quantifies and ranks all risks of flow cytometry enumeration to prevent and minimize the false-positive results from different cytometer uses. She is also working to establish combinations of monoclonal antibodies for mesenchymal and adipose tissue stem cell enumeration. In addition to collaboration with state universities and pharmaceutical companies on research projects, Kalodimou frequently publishes her findings. The Greek edition of the book was published in 2010 and has been well-received while in 2013 the English edition of the book was puplished by AABB Press USA. She is a member of two subsections of the AABB Cellular Therapies Section and also an AABB assessor.

Upon graduating as a Medical Doctor, awarded with a summa cum lade from one of the most prestigious universities of Latin America, University of Buenos Aires, I was admitted as a resident of Cardiology at ICBA in Buenos Aires. I always obtained high scores in all my in-service exams and became the resident that was most frequently asked to give presentations before all the institutional staff, which gave rise to my interest in education. I have always had a high patient satisfaction rate, an excellent relationship with my superiors as well as natural team leader skills. After completion of my residence, I was voted Chief of Residents by both my tutors and the residents. I was then appointed Chief of Residents, Resident Instructor, Course Coordinator, Chief of the Emergency Department, Chief of Cardiology Department at Anchorena Hospital, Staff Member of Cardiology Department at ICBA, President of the Scientific Committee at ICBA, where I am still working. My permanent growth within the same health centre helped open the doors for further development in other institutions. I was appointed Associate’s Professor at USAL University, Professor of Cardiology at University of Buenos Aires, Lecturer and Staff Member at the Argentine Association of Cardiology, and Cleveland Clinic (USA) annually offers me the freedom to decide whether I or any other cardiologist of my choice participates as a guest of their symposiums. I have always been very interested in research as I strongly believe it is the key for progress in any field of study. I published many articles as principal and co-author investigator in international journals. As President of the Scientific Committee of one the most prestigious health centres of Latin America and Member of the Argentine Association of Cardiology that sets the medical procedures for Cardiology nationwide, I am considered a key opinion leader in my region. I finished Master’s course in Clinical Effectiveness, which is a study programme granted by both Harvard University and University of Buenos Aires. I am highly committed with the progress that the region is achieving in this medical area and strive to participate in bringing all the latest medical advances and knowledge to the professionals of the region. I am currently the National Coordinator for Alecardio Trial , AlePrevent and Accelerate in Argentina. My work is characterised by a constant search for professionalism, responsibility, progress, and high values, never losing sight of what should always be any doctor’s top priority: the patient.

Dr. Yael Yaniv received her BSc in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (cum laude), her MSc in Electrical Engineering (summa cum laude), and her PhD in Biomedical Engineering all from the Technion-IIT, Israel. She was a postdoctoral fellow in cardiovascular science at the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, under Dr. Edward Lakatta. Dr. Yaniv is currently a Research Fellow of the National Institute of Aging. From January 2014, Dr. Yaniv will be an assistant professor in Biomedical Engineering at the Technion-IIT, Israel. She has been honored by the International Society of Heart Research and the Gordon Conference (both Cardiac Arrhythmia Mechanisms and Cardiac Regulatory Mechanisms) poster awards.

His research interests involve collaborative research projects between chemistry and biology in order to design, synthesis, and evaluation of bioactive small molecules as drugs or biomarkers. In this regards organic chemistry lies at the heart of drug discovery and development and the current range of organic synthetic methodologies allows for the construction of unlimited libraries of small organic molecules for drug screening. As a medicinal chemist with a strong background in organic chemistry and various synthetic methodologies, he focused on design, synthesis and structural modification of different heterocycle compounds such as salicylaldoxime, benzofuran, quinolone, benzothiazole benzothiazol, chromene, thiopyran, resveratrol, naphthalene, and sphingosine derivatives, which are important intermediates for pharmaceutical, pesticides and other related industrial materials. He also was involved in several projects related to discovery of new drugs based on natural products and isolation of medicinal agents found in plants, as well as the creation of new synthetic drug compounds like cyctokinine, cyctokinine ribosides, aporphine alkaloids, anolides, flavonoids, and sesquiterpenes. A significant part of my research project here at Pharmaceutical Research Institute, PRI-ACPHS is devoted to structure–activity relationship (SAR) investigation of quinazoline derivatives in order to find a new class of NF-κB activation inhibitors. I am also working on design, synthesis and SAR analyze of thyroxin analogs for their ability to block angiogenesis in comparison to thyroid hormone antagonists (tetrac) with a site of action near the integrin αν-β3’s binding pocket. In other hands, He also works on development of new nanoparticle systems (based on nucleic acids, polymers, micelles and liposomes) that could improve chemotherapeutic delivery through increasing the solubility and sustaining of retention times
