About the Journal

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the major cause of death globally, which are a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases & Diagnosis is an Open Access scholarly, academic journal that is concerned with both basic and translational research, across different disciplines and areas, enhancing insight in cardiovascular disease mechanisms and the perspective for innovation.

Cardiovascular Diseases & Diagnosis journal publishes original research articles, epidemiological studies, new methodological clinical approaches, case reports, design and goals of clinical trials, review articles, points of view, editorials and Images in cardiovascular medicine. A special emphasis is given to congenital heart disease, valvular heart diseases and as well as Acute Myocardial Infarction, Ventricular Arrhythmia, Rheumatic Heart disease, Atrial Fibrillation, Valve Replacement, coronary disease, heart failure, Stroke, Echocardiography,  and all sorts of cardiovascular disorders etc. The journal aims to publish most complete and reliable source of information on the discoveries and current developments in cardiovascular medicine and making them freely available through online Open Access without any restrictions or any other subscriptions to researchers worldwide.

Cardiovascular journal is a peer reviewed journal and journal quality is retained by mandatory acceptance of paper by editor and reviewers for publication of an article. The journal publishes most comprehensive, relevant and reliable information based on the current research and development in the field of cardiology. The journal ensures barrier-free distribution of of its content through online open access.

The journal uses Editorial Manager System for quality in peer review process. Editorial Manager is an online manuscript submission, review and tracking systems. Review processing is performed by the editorial board members of JCDD or outside experts; at least two independent reviewers approval followed by editor is required for the acceptance of any citable manuscript. Authors may submit manuscripts and track their progress through the system, hopefully to publication. Reviewers can download manuscripts and submit their opinions to the editor. Editors can manage the whole submission/review/revise/publish process.

Cardiovascular Diseases

Cardiovascular Diseases (Heart Diseases) are the range of diseases that affect the structure or functioning of heart and blood vessels. These include blood vessel diseases, arrhythmias, heart defects, Heart valve disease and Heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy).

Congenital Heart Disease

The abnormality or defect in structure of heart and greater blood vessels present at the birth is termed as congenital heart disease. These defects are the main cause of deaths related to birth defects. These defects are classified into Hypoplasia, Obstruction defects, Septal defects and Cyanotic defects. Symptoms include abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), cyanosis, dizziness or fainting, shortness of breath and edema.

Coronary Artery Disease

It is the condition in which the major blood vessels coronary arteries get damaged or diseased. This condition may be due to development of plaques that narrow the arteries and decrease the blood flow. Symptoms include Chest pain (angina), Shortness of breath and completely blocked coronary artery may lead to heart attack.

Endocarditis

An infection of valves of the heart or its inner lining is termed as Endocarditis. Infection is by germs (bacteria, fungi) that get into the bloodstream and settle inside the heart, often on a valve. Symptoms include Flu-like symptoms- fever, chills, night sweats, and fatigue.

Acute Coronary Syndrome

Acute Coronary Syndrome refers to a condition where the blood flow in coronary arteries is decreased leading to non-functioning of the heart muscle. ACT is a complication due to buildup of plaque in the arteries in the heart. Symptoms are similar to that of Heart attack, which include chest pain (burning sensation radiating to left arm), nausea, vomiting, sweating & Shortness of breath.

Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is an abnormal heart rhythm which results in poor blood flow to body parts. It is the most common type of arrhythmia. In this condition the coordination between the Auricles and ventricles is lost. Symptoms include shortness of breath, heart palpitations, weakness & chest pain. AF may lead to risk factors like ischemia, heart failure & stroke.

Hypertension

Hypertension is a medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is higher (more than 140/80mmHg). Blood pressure is determined by systolic and diastolic pressures. Initially hypertension does not present any symptoms, but causing damage to blood vessels & Heart. Uncontrolled hypertension is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease and peripheral artery disease.

Pulmonary Embolism

Pulmonary Embolism is blockage of artery of lungs due to blood clots which might have travelled from mostly legs or other parts of body to lungs through bloodstream. As pulmonary Embolism derives blood clot in legs called deep vein thrombosis, it is referred as venous thromboembolism. Symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pain, cyanosis and rapid heart rate.

Aortic Dissection

Aortic Dissection is a serious medical condition in which the inner wall of aorta is torn which leads to blood flow between the walls of the Blood vessel. Aorta is the major artery that carries blood from the heart. It may lead to aortic rupture or decreased flow of blood to body parts. Causes and risk factors are high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, ageing & connective tissue diseases (Marfan syndrome). Symptoms begin suddenly with chest pain, heavy sweating & pain confusing with that of Myocardial infarction.

Angina Pectoris

Angina pectoris or Angina is the chest pain caused due reduced blood flow to heart muscle. It is due to obstruction or spasm of the coronary arteries and is sign of Coronary artery disease. Symptoms include chest pain, fatigue, dizziness, sweating & shortness of breath. This condition may proceed to Heart Attack.

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary angioplasty is a non-surgical method used to treat narrowed coronary arteries of the heart. Narrowing of arteries might be due to buildup of plaques that form due to atherosclerosis. Balloon or a stent is placed at the site of blockage to open the artery. This may improve symptoms of blocked arteries like shortness of breath and chest pain.

Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomyopathy is the abnormal condition of heart muscle (myocardium). Cardiomyopathy types are dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive cardiomyopathy. It results in irregular heart rate and sudden cardiac death. Symptoms include chest pain, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, Swelling of the legs, ankles and feet.

Major Disease Statistics

*Unofficial 2015 Journal Impact Factor was established by dividing the number of articles published in 2013 and 2014 with the number of times they are cited in 2015 based on Google search and the Scholar Citation Index database. If 'X' is the total number of articles published in 2013 and 2014, and 'Y' is the number of times these articles were cited in indexed journals during 2015 then, impact factor = Y/X
