Biography

Associate Professor with Aggregation since 2007 in the Veterinary Science Department, with a PhD in the Scientific Area of Animal Science – Microbiology (2000); Graduated in Engineering Animal Science (1988).
Currently is a researcher in the field of microbiology, phylogenetic diversity and resistance to antimicrobial agents, particularly in the field of molecular biology (PCR, genetic typing, identification by sequencing, 16S rRNA and housekeeping genes). She has also experience in identification and resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics, conduction of research studies in public health (environmental health/food safety).  Recently she is dedicated to the study of the effect of natural compounds (phytochemicals) on bacteria (human and /or animal).  She is a full member of several international and national scientific projects and Project leader in several partnerships with private companies, such as Alltech, developing studies on in vitro evaluations of the antibacterial activities. She as experience in supervising students for the final course reports (54), for the masters (20), PhD (8) and Pos-Doc supervisions (2).

Research Interest

She is fully interested in the field of microbiology, phylogenetic diversity and resistance to antimicrobial agents; molecular biology; identification and resistance of microorganisms to antibiotic; public health; antibacterial effects of natural compounds.

Interview
1. What is the research topic you are working on now?
I´m working on the field of:

a. Microbiology, phylogenetic diversity and resistance to antimicrobial agents, particularly in the field of molecular biology (PCR, genetic typing, identification by sequencing, 16S rRNA and housekeeping genes);

b. I´ve experience in identification and resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics, conduction of research studies in public health (environmental health/food safety);

c. Antimicrobial effects of natural compounds (phytochemicals) from plants against human, animal and foodborne pathogenic bacteria associated to outbreaks diseases.

2. How many years have you been associated with the current research?
I’m working in this field about 25 years, since I finished my course. All my research area have been in the microbiological field, particularly associated with antibacterial resistance and food security and safety.

3. How has your research precinct affected the scientific community?
Through the development of new and improved methods for bacterial strains identification and through the enhancement of knowledge about bacterial resistance mechanisms.

4. What are attributes for a quality article?
Every scientific paper or article should be objective, well-structured and well-panned. The discussion always must be centered in the data achieved and not in theoretical suppositions. Thus, it´s important that the experimental methodology can be well described and reproducible with a good discussion of the results.

5. How does the published scientific content assist the potential researchers?
Through showing feasible data and accurate or even new methodologies.

6. Where can the journal find the maximum scope in terms of niche?
Looking for researchers working in a specific field and trough a massive publicity in a database.

7. Your opinion on conducting EB meetings at related Conferences?
It´s really very important since these meeting provide an opportunity to meet new researchers and exchange experiences.

8. How would you define your experience with OMICS Group?
Has been a pleasant experience.

9. Do you feel content with publication of your work with OMICS?
Yes, I´m pleased.

10. What other aspects should be taken into consideration for Journal forbearance?
The quality of papers and innovative results.
