Biography

Dr. Synan AbuQamar completed his B.Sc. from the University of Jordan/Department of Plant Production in 1998. Then, he moved to Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN, USA) where he finished his M.S. from the Department of Agronomy in the area of Plant Physiology and Molecular Biology in 2003; and Ph.D. from the Department of Botany & Plant Pathology in the area of Molecular Genetics of Plant Immunity in 2007. Between 2007-2008, he conducted postdoctoral research at Purdue University in the lab of Dr. Mengiste, working on functional genomics of host defense to fungal pathogens. Since August 2008, Synan joined the Department of Biology at United Arab Emirates University as an Assistant Professor. Synan's current research interest is in the area of Plant Molecular Genetics/Plant Biotechnology. He co-authors a number of publications in peer-reviewed international journals and is a reviewer and editorial board member of several international journals.

Research Interest

Molecular Genetics of Plant Immunity- understanding the molecular and cellular factors that control plant defense response mechanisms against necrotrophic pathogens, mainly Botrytis cinerea, using Arabidopsis and tomato as host plants.

: - Functional genomics of plant defense responses to necrotrophic fungi
; - Molecular components of host defense signaling in response to necrotrophic pathogens
; - Interaction and cross-talk between signal transduction pathways in response to biotic and abiotic stresses
