Biography

Dr. Suchismita Ray joined the Cognitive Neuroscience Research group at the Rutgers University Center of Alcohol Studies in November, 2000. She completed her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 2000 and completed a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in addiction in 2002 from the Rutgers University Center of Alcohol Studies. She is currently a Principal Investigator of a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) supported research project that is examining neural mechanisms that underlie implicit and explicit memory processes in chronic cocaine smokers compared to high- and low-risk individuals by using cognitive experimental tasks and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Brain regions of interest (ROIs) and connectivity between brain regions are examined. She is also a Co-Investigator of a NIDA funded project that is examining interconnected brain region activation in response to marijuana-related picture cues, the relation between neural activation and cardiovascular modulation as it co-occurs in real time, and how these may vary with chronic marijuana use.

Research Interest

Neurocognitive mechanisms underlying addiction, implicit and explicit memory processes, attention, developing prevention and intervention strategies for individuals with alcohol and substance use disorders.
