Research Interest

His primary research goal has been to understand those factors that lead to the development of addictive behaviours. The causative factors naturally include both genetic and environmental factors. His initial research focused on the role of altered early life experiences in the development of monoamine systems, and the consequences of that altered development on behaviour. His long term goal to understand the mechanisms by which experiences alter behavioural phenotypes related to addiction which would be required to understand the mechanisms of gene-environment interactions.
