Biography

Dr. Efterpi Christaki, veterinarian, nutritionist, graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Greece, where she completed her Ph.D. in 1991. She began her academic career as Lecturer in the Laboratory of Nutrition, in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, of the Aristotle University, Greece, later was promoted to Assistant Professor, then Associated Professor and Professor. In 1996, she was a visiting researcher in Wye College, University of London, Great Britain. She teaches nutrition to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, of the Aristotle University and supervises M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. Her research interests include nutrition, feed additives (probiotics, prebiotics, etc.), functional foods, aromatic plants, macro- and micro-algae, feed nutritional value and quality. She has more than 150 publications (books, research articles, reviews, presentations in congresses), with more than 1200 citations. She is reviewer and member of editorial boards in peer-reviewed journals, evaluator of scientific proposals and member of national and international scientific committees.

Oceanography and Marine Biology, Investigation in the potential use of macro- and micro-algae as novel feed ingredients, Investigation into the potential use of various agricultural byproducts in animal nutrition, Investigation of functional foods and bioactive substances, Evaluation of the effect of various feed additives (acidifiers, probiotics, prebiotics, etc) on the performance of productive animals and the quality of their products, Investigation into the potential use of various aromatic plants or their extracts alternative to the approved growth promoting antibiotics, Investigation into the potential improvement of the quality of animal feed supplementation with special nutritional agents (vitamins, herbs, essential oils, etc), Evaluation of the nutritive value of feedstuffs and their digestibility.
